Day Two at Camp Tapu

Today we ventured into the Kauranga Valley. A very dusty, gravel road lead us to the start of the walk to Cookson's Kauri. We headed off, full of energy. Before too long we came across our first flight of stairs, followed by another, and another, and another. There were 705 stairs altogether!! (Yes we counted). The energy we started with began to fade. Luckily we had some strong Dads who acted as pack horses for some of us-carrying up to 3 extra backpacks!! We were relieved to see the sign which said there was only 15 minutes to go until we got to Cookson's Kauri and the lunch stop.

After our walk we were feeling rather hot and bothered. A swim was in order!! We arrived at a magical spot-Hoffman's Pool. It was pretty chilly though. A rock at least 5 metres high was a great launching spot to jump into the pool. Most of us had a go-including the parents and Miss Phillips!!!

We enjoyed finishing off our day watching a movie under the stars with children from Tapu School.
